Prayer Journal
Recognizing the need to enhance my prayer life, I initiated a discussion within our Bible study group and discovered that others shared similar struggles. Despite praying daily, my prayers often lacked focus amidst the busyness of life. Determined to cultivate a more intentional prayer practice, I created a prayer journal/notebook. Being a visual person, I believe that seeing answered prayers documented will strengthen my faith. I finalized the notebook's structure in mid-August and continued to refine the method and process. I chose a small, customizable notebook, allowing me to add or remove pages as needed. I personalized it with a decorative cover from my scrapbook stash. My goal in sharing this is to inspire others and maintain accountability, as using this journal demands discipline.
Breaking up specific aspects of each prayer, I purchased page protectors like these for my main categories. I loosely used the A.C.T.S. model described below for my category pages. On the backside of each category page I typed up some scriptures and jumping off points.
Behind each category page, I've added loose-leaf paper and binder pockets to hold index cards or notes from my Bible or purse. This flexible system allows me to use either paper or index cards, and I'm still experimenting to see which option I prefer.
Here's a breakdown of my prayer journal categories:
Category 1: Adoration & Praise
On the back, I've listed various characteristics of God. My goal is to focus on one attribute for 1-2 weeks, finding three relevant scriptures and writing them out in my journal.
Category 2: Confession
The backside includes prayer prompts to guide me in reflecting on areas for personal growth, such as my roles as a wife and mother, my faith, and temptations. I'm writing down passages that help me address my shortcomings and sins.
Category 3: Thanksgiving & Supplication
Instead of a single page, I created decorated pages for each subcategory: Husband, Children, Family & Friends, Church Family & Ministries, and Reaching Beyond. This allows for daily entries under these specific categories. The backside of each page features scriptures and prayer prompts.
Category 4: Answered Prayers
I've designated a section to document answered prayers. I believe that seeing these collected in one place will boost my faith during challenging times.
